DIY Pizza Store!

Everyone being at home presents numerous challenges. There are three, however, that immediately jump to the front of every mother’s mind:

  1. How do I keep the kids busy?
  2. How do I keep everyone fed? (Especially because bored kids tend to become hungry kids.)
  3. How do we maintain a positive atmosphere in the home?

Three Challenges, One Solution

One great activity can be the solution to all three challenges. Have your kids run a pizza store in your kitchen. This is an activity that we’ve done many times in our home – and will be doing today after the kids saw us making preparations for this post. It’s a great opportunity for creating time with the children and everyone enjoys a meal that they’ve helped prepare.

With the simple recipe that kids can follow (see below), your children can become proprietors of their very own pizzeria right in your home. It’s a fun, time-consuming activity that also provides you with an enjoyable meal. There are numerous assignments that can be split amongst children: making the dough, actually preparing the pizza, manning the oven (for children old enough to do so safely), and taking orders – either at the “counter” or via phone. You can even have children “deliver” the pizza.

Family Time Pizza Recipe

  • 3 c. warm water
  • 3 Tbsp. dry yeast
  • 3 Tbsp. oil
  • 3 Tbsp. sugar
  • 9 cups flour
  • 1 Tbsp. salt

Mix the ingredients in the order listed. There is no need to let the dough rise. Roll the dough out on a baking paper, either into three large pizza pies or into personal pies.

Add sauce, cheese & toppings.

Bake at 200 degrees Celsius until ready – for about 15 minutes.

Have a great time and bon appetite.
